Welcome! image
Welcome, I'm glad you’ve found your way here.

Starting therapy can take a bit of courage. Often people reach this point because something in life isn’t sitting right anymore, or hasn't been for a long time.

My aim is to offer a space where you can pause, take a breath and begin to explore what’s happening, without pressure or judgement.

I try to work in a straightforward, human way, not as an expert who has all the answers, but alongside you. For me psychotherapy is not something that is "done" to someone, it's about us working together helping you to make sense of what you’re feeling and how you’ve got to where you are.

Living and practicing in Abergavenny, I’m often influenced by the surrounding landscape, the openness of the hills and the quiet places to pause. For me, therapy offers something similar, a safe space where you can gather yourself, see things more clearly, and begin to move forward in a way that feels true to you.

About Me image
So here's a little bit about me.

I have been a counsellor since 2005 within the NHS and various charities. These roles required a steady presence, careful listening, and an ability to meet people where they are. This has taught me that change doesn’t come from being told what to do; it comes from being understood, supported, and given the space to explore what’s really going on. That’s the attitude I bring into the therapy room.

As a therapist, I try to be straightforward, grounded, and fully present. I’m not here to fix you or give you a list of instructions. Instead, I’m here to work alongside you, to explore your experiences in the moment, pay attention to what’s emerging, and help you make sense of the patterns that may be holding you back or weighing you down.

Clients have described me as calm and easy to talk to. I’m genuinely curious about people and how they make meaning of their lives. I value honesty and warmth, and work at a pace that feels manageable rather than overwhelming.

I am currently a trainee Psychotherapist in my fifth year of training with the Welsh Psychotherapy Institute in Cardiff. This is a UKCP accredited course and I am bound by their code of ethics. As a senior trainee, I’ve completed several years of rigorous clinical training and have experience working with a wide range of issues in both private practice and placement settings. My work is closely supervised by an experienced Gestalt supervisor, and I adhere to professional and ethical standards to ensure that clients are well supported.

Alongside my work as a therapist i am also a musician. Being a musician is at the core of who i am and is something that has carried me well throughout the years. That same sense of creativity often finds its way into my therapy work, not necessarily through music itself, but in how I pay attention to rhythm, tone, and flow in the therapy process. I see creativity as a vital part of being human, a way of finding fresh perspectives and new possibilities, even in difficult times.

People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes it can be really clear, sometimes a feeling that something isn't quite right.

I see therapy as a calm, reflective space rather than a place for quick fixes. It’s a chance to hear yourself think, feel what you feel, and explore what’s happening with honesty and care. Sometimes that means looking at old patterns; other times it’s simply finding a way to be more present and connected to life as it is.

My approach is rooted in Gestalt therapy, which focuses on what’s happening in the here and now, in your thoughts, emotions, body, and relationships. Together, we might explore how you’ve learned to navigate life’s challenges, and what new possibilities might open up with greater awareness and support.

Often we can become stuck in fixed patterns and beliefs about ourselves and the world which can stop us moving forward. These beliefs and patterns are sometimes formed in childhood or sometimes later on in our lives. Gestalt aims to uncover these patterns and help to replace them with new and more creative ways of being.

I see my aim as a therapist to help you see more clearly what your situation is, how you are part of it, and to experiment with finding new ways of resolving any difficulties.

“The best way out is always through.”

Why choose therapy image
I work with adults from all backgrounds and life experiences, and I am fully LGBTQIA+ affirming. There’s no “type” of person who comes to therapy, everyone brings something unique, and all experiences are welcome.

For me, the relationship between therapist and client is the most important part of therapy. It’s in that connection, built on trust, respect, and openness and that real understanding that change can happen. This is as much about "can you work with me" as anything else.

Whatever your situation, my aim is to create a safe, non-judgemental space where you can be heard, understood, and supported in finding clarity, balance, and new ways of relating to yourself and others.

Over the course of my journey as therapist i have supported many people with a wide range of issues.
These have included: Trauma, Abuse, Depression, Anxiety, Addiction, Self Harm, Bereavement, PTSD, Stress , Neurodiversity, Gender, Sexuality, Grief and Loss.

"I felt safe and secure working with Simon"

"Simon gave me space to explore what i was going through"

"I felt that Simon was able to relate to me and be attentive."
Your first session is a chance to meet and see how it feels to work together. There’s no need to prepare or have everything figured out  we can start wherever you are.
You’ll have space to talk about what’s brought you here and what you’re hoping for, and I’ll explain a bit about how I work. From there, we can decide together whether it feels like a good fit.
In ongoing sessions, we explore what’s happening in your life and how you experience it in your thoughts, feelings, body, and relationships. Each session is different; some feel more reflective, others more practical. My aim is to offer a steady, honest space where you can make sense of things and begin to feel more at ease in yourself.

An initial 15 minute phone call free of charge.
Sessions are 60 minutes long and cost £45.
You can contact me either by email, text or phone.
Any personal information will be stored inline with current GDPR legislation.
The in-person sessions currently take place in central Abergavenny. I also offer online sessions.

This blog explores the idea that addiction isn’t just a problem, it’s often a solution to deeper, unspoken pain. Drawing on two decades of experience and Gestalt therapy principles, i attempt to reframe addiction as an adaptive response to emotional overwhelm, disconnection, or trauma. Healing begins when we understand what the addiction is doing for the person, not just what it's doing to them.
